Success Stories

2024

So far, the scholarship has funded 7 youngsters in the Learn to Skate Program and 7 youth hockey players, and the fees for one Little Penguin.

Thank you for taking time to read my letter and consider my family for the scholarship. My son is obsessed with hockey, as he has tried almost every other sport imaginable, and keeps returning to hockey. The MARC hockey family accepted us as one of their own, and always showed us support and love. Athlete finally accomplished what he set out to do, as he did try-outs for travel, and made the team! Anyone who has eyeballs could see the sheer joy in his face. We usually wouldn’t ask for help, because as parents we always find a way for our kids, but this past year has been hard on us as a family. In hopes of bettering our life, I have re-enrolled in college, and am now a full-time college student, as well as a mother and employee. Enrolling in college has minimized the number of days I can work, so I am now only working about 2-3 days a week, cutting our spending shorter than usual. Athlete’s registration for hockey is about 1,130$ in total, as we already paid the 100$ try-out fee, and paid for his USA hockey membership. As stated earlier in the letter, as parents we will figure out whatever we have to, to make our children’s dreams come true, which is where the scholarship would come in. We are asking for a scholarship of 500$ to help with the cost of his registration, and we will raise the money to cover the remainder of the balance. As a mother, it breaks my heart to tell my son he can’t play a sport he loves so much, because I am unable to afford it. The teammates, the growth, the skills, and the friendship built on the ice, is something every child deserves, regardless of their financial situation. Thank you again for your consideration. Go Flames!

2023

The scholarship has proudly supported the enrollment of three participants in the Little Penguins Program, fostering their growth and development in the sport. Additionally, it has funded the participation of a talented JV player for the 2023 season, further contributing to the success of our initiative. Presently, we are delighted to share that the scholarship is benefitting a total of twelve enthusiastic participants in the Learn to Skate program, providing them with valuable opportunities to embrace the joy of skating.

We are writing to request being considered for the hockey scholarship. James, our 7 yr old son, has tried many different sports, including baseball, basketball, skiing, and even a little soccer, but we have never seen him so happy to be playing a sport than when he comes off the ice after playing hockey!

We would appreciate your consideration for the kids hockey scholarship. It would be wonderful to have some of the financial part taken care of for Athlete to join the team! It is not always easy for us to pay to have Athlete participate in every activity he would like to, so this would definitely help with that!

Hi, this is Athlete writing this. I am 7 yrs old and live with my parents and 4 yr old brother. I love hockey because I can go really fast on my ice skates. I also love being on a team with the kids in my group, and my coaches! I am excited to continue hockey next season!

2022

The Double Sock Foundation proudly supported the journey of seven children in the Little Penguins Program and CCYHA, in addition to providing assistance to a dedicated U12 travel player. Our heartfelt gratitude extends to all who have played a role in ensuring the continued success of the Double Sock Foundation. Your contributions have made a lasting impact on the lives of these young participants, fostering a sense of community and opportunity through the power of sports.

I am the mother of 3 boys, 13, 9, and 7. I grew up in a family of hockey players although I have never played. Two years ago we decided to start the boy in skating to see how they would like it. All three boys enjoyed it but my two little boys just loved it! They participated in multiple learn to skate programs as well as two sessions of The Little Penguins program.

Both boys have really showed in interest in continuing hockey at the 8U and 10U levels. Unfortunately, as I know is the case with many others, I am finding myself having to make the decision to cut back on my children's extracurricular activities. I remember a meeting where The Double Sock Scholarship program was discussed and this is the reason for my letter. Any consideration given for Athlete and Athlete is very appreciated. I thank you for your time and the wonderful program you all have started.
